November 9, 2006 — honeytech Hints and Tricks on Firefox01 - Is you Firefox® crashing on startup ?
Possibly it is one extension or theme that you have installed that causes the problem. Windows users, click on the Start button, choose the Run menu and write firefox-safe-mode and confirm. It will open a Secure Mode dialog, where you should choose the middle button (Continue in safe mode, I guess
). In this safe mode, you’ll be able do exclude some theme or extension and maybe it will solve the problem. If not… follow hint 2
02 - How to create a new Firefox Profile.
With no Firefox® windows opened, click on the Start button, choose the Run menu and write firefox-p and confirm. The profile Manager will appear, with the “New Profile” button. Click on it, click next, choose a name (better no spaces!) and you’ll be ready. Many difficult problems in Firefox® can be solved with this approach (start from zero: new Profile).

Then, open Firefox and paste the copied link (Ctrl + V) on the address bar, in the top.

Firefox 1.5 broght us an easier way to do it:

In a website that has XML or RSS feed (you will see an orange small rectangle with a white XML or RSS word in it):
a) Copy the link (usually the address of a xml file) by right-clicking the FEED link in that site and choosing “Copy shortcut”.
b) Open Firefox, menus Bookmarks -> Manage BookMarks
c) A window will open with a File Menu. Choose New Dynamic BookMark (some versions named it RSS Bookmark) in the File menu of this small window.
d) Choose a name for the dynamic bookmark
e) Paste the link (Ctrl + V) in the source (bellow name).

reduce FireFox Load Time make it fast
1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”.
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
